JANUARY
At the beginning of January 2007: Very soft winter until now, this year. Little of wintering came in visit this beginning from winter. Regular visits of great tits sometimes solitary and very often per couple. It is the same for the blue tits which have passed very accurately for November, morning and evening. We saw some visits of our blackbird but, for a little, it miss this year, the grapes by the Virginia creeper (no freezing this year, then the grapes are not good enough? amateur of "wine ice" (vin de glace)?). It sings briskly as of 5 hours of the morning. Our friends sparrows are always there but their number is not as important as the previous winters.
05 January 2007 and the first visit into the nest box...
A couple of blue tits comes regularly the every day. New titmices or the same ones as in 2006?
He sings often now. It makes the shuttle while hopping between the various trees of the terrace and the nesting box, while singing, lowered wings. She, looks at him. On January 3, she, on several occasions, passes the head by the entry, looks at, then flies away. Then she returns a little later. The horse-gear continues until January 5 when she enters to visit a few seconds. He, starts to defend its territory, even the sparrows are not more authorized to approach too much close to the nesting box, it remains a long time to sing on the birch.
12 january: new visit, this time we are there too and the webcam functions in its new installation, a webcam daylight and one in infra-red, adjustable. This time the image is well centered. It makes a little sinks.
13 January: long visit. One inspects the least recesses of the nesting box and one even comes to perch oneself on the wire of the cameras. One spends much time to the door.
14 January 15: always short visits but short.
January 16: the visits follow one another. He is held beside the nesting box, lowered wings, sings, he go to see at the door, then flies towards the female and tries to convince she to see the nesting box. Sometimes he succeeds and he makes a short complete inspection. We added a lighting in the nesting box, adjustable remotely. It is now necessary to regulate the intensity of it not to obstruct them.
17-20 january It does not seem to have problems with lighting because the short visits (40-50s) continue. Generally, a small glance at the entry..
21-25 january much colder. Few visits, they especially come to lunch and supper.
26-28 january: the weather is less cold and there is sun. When the sun gives directly on the nesting box, they seem much more inclined to pay a small visit. They spend always much time to the door. Is the sight appropriate?
27 january.
30 january: There are not much light but they visit a little longer, one minute. Complete inspection of the nesting box. One inspects even wire and the cameras.
The time of passage remains too short to be able to correctly regulate lighting and the sun is not with us. It happens that one of the titmices is in the nesting box and that the other enters in its turn, a few seconds, we think that it is him, which is inside it and she which enters! At once he goes out immediately. Probably him, because he pole at once, beside the nesting box, lowered wings.
A
new occupant, but not with feathers! who found a shelter with the
heat. It remained a long moment there, until a titmouse passes the head
by the door.
