A spider.
A butterfly! A former
green caterpillar?
As for the number of
chicks it is probable that the brood comprises nine chicks. Very often we see 9
beaks and that's all and now all chicks open largely the beak. It is not so bad.
The parents have work. The firsts born begin to look as large “chickens”, with
large legs and already of long claws. They became darker, the head becomes
black.
A crown of
beaks around the head of one of the chicks.
3 May
Beautiful day. 16-

Difficult
to keep a correct headdress in the nest. A little coiffure would be welcome.
So many come...
...and go in the day.
Caterpillar or yellow
worm. We do not see any more these large green caterpillars. The preys changed.
Hunting seems more difficult.

Bouquet of nine beaks.
Care and
feeding of babe-chicks.

Sad, the last born small
chick of May 1 did not survive. He has, probably, been pushed out of the bowl
of the nest by the others and did not succeed to return there or was not allowed
to do so. We tried to put light (it happened at about 19h 45 but we saw it only
at 20h15) so that the mother could see him but she didn't nourished him even
when he was near, on the edge and asked to be nourished under her beak. She
looked at it on several occasions and left to nourish the others exclusively.
Hard law for the weak ones, 4 days late compared to the others is too much. To
intervene or not? Should we have tried to put him back in his place? Difficult
to say, and risky for the brood to intervene in the nest; besides it was in the
evening. Stressed, the mother could have not returned early enough to warm them
during the night
4 May
Overcast,
wind and cooler. (
They all are grouped ones against the others and now occupy all
the center of the nest bowl. They are 7 days old. In two days they should open
the eyes.
The head
darkens, the large legs lengthen. The body is still pink but a black line
appears on the back.
She always warms
them periodically.
